vers.augt<\/strong> highlights the very act of watching. In this sense, it is impossible not to think of the viewer\u2019s eye, but above all, more generally, of cinema itself, which is capable of offering us the most diverse spectacles each time. <\/em><\/h3>\n\n

A declaration of love to Life<\/h2>\n\n

Director and animator Tone Fink has been collaborating for years with Hubert Sielecki, himself a master of animation and experimental cinema. In fact, Sielecki has frequently produced Fink\u2019s works, often overseeing specific technical aspects as well. Among these, for example, the animated short film vers.augt<\/strong>, made in 2011, is particularly noteworthy and offers a truly captivating spectacle. <\/p>\n\n

At the beginning of vers.augt<\/strong>, then, we first see an eye. This eye opens and closes; its pupil moves frantically. What could it possibly be looking at? Two fish swim in the sea; they draw closer and kiss, then, little by little, their images change, transforming first into a Buddha, then into two birds playing together, and then into two lovers engaged in a liberating dance. And again: a woman practises yoga and, transforming once more into the aforementioned Buddha, gives birth to life in her own way. In this sense, then, genital organs \u2013 which also appear to shift in form \u2013 seem to improvise a bizarre choreography with animals, until we see a calf being suckled by a cow. <\/p>\n\n

vers.augt<\/strong>, therefore, highlights the very act of watching (the same eye we saw at the beginning of the film continues to appear on the movie screen from time to time, always in ever-changing forms). In this sense, it is impossible not to think of the viewer\u2019s eye, but above all, more generally, of cinema itself, which is capable of offering us the most diverse spectacles each time. Moreover, it is precisely our beloved cinema that allows us to transcend every boundary, break down every barrier, let our imagination run free and overcome every taboo. <\/p>\n\n

In making this vers.augt, therefore, Tone Fink has made this freedom its strong point, staging a real dance that could be seen, overall, as a true declaration of love for life in all its forms. A subtle and always sophisticated eroticism, but also a certain humour that accompanies us from beginning to end, have thus proved to be the best solutions for bringing the figures that appear so free on the movie screen to life in a vivid and pulsating way. <\/p>\n\n

And while we’re on the subject of imagery: as is customary in Tone Fink’s films, this vers.augt<\/strong> is also characterised by two-dimensional drawings and delicate pastel tones, which \u2013 in their constant transformation \u2013 almost bring to mind the films of Isao Takahata, yet at the same time stand out for their own distinct personality. To fully appreciate the true essence of vers.augt<\/strong>, therefore, you simply need to sit back and let yourself be surprised, moment by moment, by what appears on the movie screen.
