On the occasion of the Diagonale 2022, director Kurdwin Ayub presented her feature film Sonne, the festival’s opening film, which had already been screened at the Berlinale 2022, where it won the GWFF-Preis for Best Debut Film. Cinema Austriaco had the opportunity to have a chat with her and learn more about her work and career.
As part of the festival opening on April 5, the Diagonale’22 will award the Grand Diagonale Acting Award 2022 for services to Austrian film culture for the 15th time. The Diagonale is pleased to announce that this year’s award goes to Branko Samarovski. The stage, film and television actor will receive the award – an artwork by Constantin Luser – in Graz personally.
With the In Referenz series, the Diagonale interlaces, mediates, and expands emphases of its current festival program. In reference to this year’s film competition, the Diagonale’22 will show early works by Friederike Pezold and Kurdwin Ayub: Two films from each artist will supplement their recent works Revolution der Augen (D: Friederike Pezold, AT 2022) and the opening film Sonne (D: Kurdwin Ayub, AT 2022). Viewers are thereby invited to become acquainted with or rediscover two extraordinary positions in Austrian film production.
The Diagonale is pleased to announce two historical specials that will be available for viewing in April at the Festival of Austrian Film. The first historical special of this year’s Diagonale is called Rausch and comprises six programs that were selected by the Diagonale, Filmarchiv Austria, the Austrian Film Museum, and the ORF Archive.
The Diagonale is pleased to announce that the Festival of Austrian Film will open on April 5 with Kurdwin Ayub’s feature film Sonne (AT 2022). After its world premiere at the Berlinale Encounters section, the Austrian premiere of the film produced by Ulrich Seidl Filmproduktion will be shown on Austria’s largest temporary screen – in the Helmut List Halle.
