IN TROUT WE DUST
Dieter Kovačič’s In Trout we Dust is a particularly sophisticated and well-crafted documentary. A real pleasure for the eyes (and the ears), a brief but exciting journey into a world that few truly know from the inside.

In KLITCLIQUE’s music video Auto, many clichés are deconstructed through an approach that is both critical and ironic. Anna Spanlang subsequently explored this same theme in several of her later works. Always in search of new cinematic languages, of course.
Aquamarine is a little symphony performed by an equally little orchestra. And watching it all on a movie screen with the right music, what we see before our eyes is pure, simple beauty.
Goldfish have very powerful eyesight and are able to see what humans often miss. Who is the mysterious killer? Das letzte Problem cleverly takes its cue from what has been made in the past while at the same time creating an enjoyable, adrenaline-fuelled detective story with a welcome retro touch.
Backstage Vienna State Opera immediately stands out as an honest, sincere and very moving portrait of one of the most famous realities in Austria (and beyond). An enthralling and magnetic documentary that in just over an hour and a half takes us by the hand into an almost ‘unreal’ world.
In her Boots is a tender and colourful journey into the mind of a lady with dementia. A lady who lives with her granddaughter and who magically finds herself now climbing mountains, now floating free in the air, now dancing naked in the living room. Her shoes are now old. Yet they have not lost their magic powers. The woman absolutely cannot part with them.
Applesauce poses many complex questions, yet at the same time stands out for its lightness, its cheerfulness, its simplicity. Divided into four parts – with equal number of frames – this little, delicate short film by Alexander Gratzer is characterised by a minimalist aesthetic with two-dimensional drawings in pastel colours that remind us so much of French animation cinema.
In But Beautiful, the starting point is a discourse that is more topical than ever: respect for the planet, the status of women and the urgent need to find oneself in a world where interpersonal contacts seem to be more and more superficial, as we all tend to become more and more individualistic. Winner of the Audience Award at the Österreichischer Filmpreis 2021.
Once were Rebels immediately presents itself as an ambivalent feature film. If, on the one hand, comedy and paradox reign for almost the entire running time of the film, on the other hand, it soon becomes an analysis of love and family relationships, as well as of the living conditions of some refugees from Russia, who are wanted solely for having tried to defend their freedom.
This brilliant Caviar – Elena Tikhonova’s second feature – boasts rhythms that are well marked both by an expert and self-conscious direction – complete with short animation inserts and Tarantino-like titling – and by an appropriate, lively and distinctive, but never over the top, musical score.
