Once were Rebels immediately presents itself as an ambivalent feature film. If, on the one hand, comedy and paradox reign for almost the entire running time of the film, on the other hand, it soon becomes an analysis of love and family relationships, as well as of the living conditions of some refugees from Russia, who are wanted solely for having tried to defend their freedom.
Halfway between the cinema of Catherine Breillat and that of Arnaud Desplechin, Lovecut feels very much the influence of French cinema but, at the same time, creates an entirely intimate and personal dimension in which, in a successful choral structure, there is a deep and never banal psychological analysis of each of the young protagonists.
The smart comedy What have we done to deserve this?, the second feature by actress and screenwriter Eva Spreitzhofer, which had its Italian premiere during the festival Sotto le Stelle dell’Austria 2019, aims to break up every cliché by focusing on a world with which we are in close contact, but of which we in fact know far too little.
