Today, Monday, February 13, the nominations for the prestigious Romy Awards 2023 were announced. As usual, once again this year it will be the audience that chooses the best-loved personality in film or television. Voting will be possible from today until March 19. The award ceremony will take place on April 22 at the Vienna Hofburg and will be broadcast live by ORF.
Now it’s up to the audience
According to the newspaper Kurier, Austrians spend more than two hundred hours a day watching television. What better jury, then, to decide who has been the most popular actor, journalist or host this past year? And, in fact, as usual, this year too it will be the audience who will vote from home for the person who has come closest to them in recent months. Voting will be possible from today until March 19 simply by logging on to the website Romy.at. For this reason, the nominations for the prestigious Romy Awards 2023 were announced today, Monday, February 13.
The Romy Awards 2023 continue a tradition that began back in 1990, when the Kurier newspaper itself decided to initiate the award, inspired by legendary Romy Schneider and, specifically, by her elegant figure in the film La Piscine (Jacques Deray, 1969).
In this edition of the Romy Awards 2023, as Kurier editor-in-chief Martina Salomon said, special attention was paid to TV journalism, which was able to keep the audience up to date with the latest news even – and especially – in such a difficult and dramatic time as the pandemic. And while many Austrian feature films have also met with great success abroad, making their protagonists popular all over the world, we see how particularly important names within the Austrian film scene have made their mark again this year, along with pleasant “new entries”, selected in the “Discoveries” category by actor Markus Freistätter. Particularly welcome, too, is this year’s nomination for host Andy Knoll – “Mr. Romy”, as he has been called by Kurier, since the showman has hosted several of the recent editions of the Romy Awards.
The jury of the Romy Awards 2023 is, as last year, chaired by Kurier’s Head of Cultural Department Georg Leyrer and includes: Johannes Bruckenberger (APA), Horst-Günther Fiedler (TV-Media), Angelika Hager (Profil), Dietmar Pribil (KURIER), Julia Pühringer (Tele), Heide Rampetzreiter (Die Presse) und Julia Schafferhofer (Kleine Zeitung).
The Romy Awards 2023 ceremony will take place on April 22, 2023 at the Vienna Hofburg and will be broadcast live by ORF. While we wait to find out who will win the prestigious awards, here are all the nominations. And may the best win!
