In accordance with the decree published this morning on the website of the Federal Ministry, the Diagonale’20 is forced to cancel this year’s Festival of Austrian Film (March 24 to 29, 2020).
Waiting for better times…
Due to the difficult situation we are all living now, a new decree was issued in Austria on March 10, 2020 concerning events involving large numbers of people in an enclosed space. Following this decree, The Diagonale’20 was forced to cancel the festival. Below, further information as from press release.
“According to the decree of the Federal Minister of Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection of March 10, 2020, published this morning, on “Measures against the confluence of a large number of persons pursuant to Article 15 of the Epidemics Act”, reference number: 2020-0. 172,682, the district administrative authorities responsible for the application of the Epidemics Act are instructed to issue an order prohibiting all events involving the confluence of a large number of people, including those in which more than 100 people gather in a closed room. Following this official order, the Diagonale’20 is forced, to its great regret, to cancel this year’s Festival of Austrian Film (March 24 to 29, 2020).
Due to the increased travel activities of national and international guests as well as a strong interplay within individual programmes, even with less than 100 visitors, this cancellation is without alternative. Legal agreements, fixed-term contracts and financial and personnel resources also make postponement impossible.
Individual events such as the festival concert at the Styrian Musikverein will take place at a later date. Tickets already purchased remain valid. Further details will be announced on the website of the Diagonale. Answers to frequently asked questions can be found at this link.
We sincerely ask for your understanding!
– the Diagonale-team”
Cinema Austriaco, as mediapartner of the festival, expresses its support for all those who have worked for months to make this event possible. Wishing that we can soon restart stronger than ever!
