On Tuesday, March 3, 2020, the nominations for the Romy Awards 2020, among Austria’s most important film and television awards, were announced. These awards, which include audience awards, have been instituted by the Kurier newspaper since 1990.
Austrians’ favourites
It’s coming soon. It is now just over a month away. Once again this year – and for the 31st consecutive year – the prestigious Romy Awards 2020 will be given during a ceremony on April 18 at the beautiful Hofburg in Vienna. The Romy Awards are, at the moment, among the most important Austrian film and television awards, which include prizes awarded by the public and which were established back in 1990 by the Kurier newspaper. As we can already imagine, they are inspired by the famous and unforgettable Romy Schneider and consist of a statuette – designed by film critic Rudolf John – inspired by her and an image of her from the film The Swimming Pool, directed by Jacques Deray in 1969, in which the actress starred alongside Alain Delon.
Only a few days ago, then, the nominations for the Romy Awards 2020 concerning the public’s choice were announced. Alongside these awards, there will be further awards decreed by a jury consisting of journalists Julia Pühringer, Martin Wurnitsch, Horst-Günther Fiedler, Johannes Bruckenberger, Isabella Leitenmüller-Wallnöfer, Dietmar Pribil and Christoph Silber. The jury is chaired by Rudolf John, who conceived the award at the time.
Before the award ceremony on April 18, the jury awards will be presented during a special evening, moderated by Nadja Bernhard, on April 16.
