In an Austria that witnessed the birth of its first production companies several years after the invention of cinema, the comic/grotesque genre – with even a good slapstick touch in it – was, in the 1910s and 1920s, along with drama and transpositions of theatrical plays, particularly popular among spectators of all ages.
